The exhibition-SERENDIPITY have get into the spotlight in Lancashire Area of England. The reginial newspaper Lancashire Evening Post today (24/04/2012) shows a big picture of the artist Huajin Qiu and his works in the gallery Mystery Tea House under the title BIG IMPRESSION.

The framed artworks held by the artist Huajin Qiu are two new limited edition prints, mounted and framed by handmade frames. The talented artist is not only expert at canvas and paper painting but also making unique charming frames. "A good work needs a good frame. It's like a good character packed in a good skin." A master of Chinese calligraphic paintings of fifteen years and now one of

the most valuable emerging artists in the international contemporary

art scene, Huajin Qiu a Chinese contemporary artist based in England

brings SERENDIPITY, a solo painting exhibition of his latest

highly sought after work into Preston’s spotlight.

Qiu’s work is a fusion of Chinese calligraphy and Western abstract expressionism,

drawing inspiration from Chinese oracle calligraphic characters, the natural world,

music, and for the most part his dreams. At first glance his paintings let the audience

indulge in brilliant sensations consisting of dream-like surreal scenes brought to life

by vibrant colours. Upon closer examination the strong black strokes establish the stability

of the internal structure while powerful colours, tones and line refinements create the

gorgeous texture. The balance between strokes, structure, colours, tones, and texture

then gives the work a delicate quality.

Huajin Qiu says: “My transcultural experience is serendipitous for my art. My work

in return is always a pleasant surprise to my life. ”

The opening reception will take place on April 14, Saturday, 2012 (from 6pm to 9.30pm).

The exhibition will be displayed until the end of May.

In our childhood, we used to listen to our heart beats. As we grow up, we seem to be too busy to listen again. Our heart is an open world in the chest. Have you tried to look inside it again with the curiosity of our childhood? Have you felt yourself alive?

The artist was inspired by a Chinese song 心跳（xin tiao, means Heartbeat）by Wang Lee Hom (see: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yBiBgKQwGkA). Work is done while the music is on. Speaking of structure design, the artist cleverly borrows five Chinese Characters “听心的声音” (means, Listen to the voice of heart) in the script of oracle to build up a stable but also moving scene. The shape of woman’s breast, the curve of a dancing body, a framework of a road lamp pole, and a joker’s face are then shown in black on the white canvas. As the music is going on in a rocking tempo, the artist decides to throw aside the brushes and use his bare hands to mix and paint the acrylic paints on. Qiu paint it very fast. The whole painting only take Qiu 3 hours to complete.

“Our heart is an unknown world waiting for us to explore. It is also an open door under the chest. Someone has already lived inside while someone still wandered around. The musical notes of the song HEARTBEAT were flowing around my head. I guess I was just hoping they can be stored in another form somewhere. And so I saw a path with an open door in the light of lamp, expanding to a mystery but pure wonderland. ” Qiu is such an synesthetes. The work seems to be one of the childish wishes of the artist’s that everybody can actually open their heart and go into each other’s.

“A work from the fusing of Chinese Calligraphy and western contemporary fine art gives a vast view of nature with levels of imagery. Speaking of the structure, as usual, I borrowed the Chinese characters NUDE and 5 scripts of BODY, resized and painted with Chinese brush in black acrylic paint. The strokes create divisions, and the shapes of women’s breasts. I gave the elements of nature, the waters, earth, rocks, fire, and woods, the female feature on the canvas. And inbetween the divisions, a vibrant colours were carefully composed to give layers, while at the same time, images such as skylights above the mystery river where people takes drafts from far away to gather in a shrine which seems to be grown upon a tree in a village, an elegant female puma (or cat) jumping over trees in the starlight, rows of cottages on a golden land, hills with the bright trees far from the village, a curious dog behind a tree, something’s (or someone ‘s ) rotating eyes with scare look hidden in the bush, the breast of the root of the tree and the colourful bushes , come to alive on the canvas. The work opens a window for the viewers to a cheerful world.”

Huajin was inspired by the philosophy of harmony of human being and nature and a thought of anti-racism. “Human are part of the nature. Human and nature should stay in harmony. However, human beings’ social rules and moral standards actually cause the loss of their original natural essence, damaging the harmony between human being and the nature.” Huajin Qiu therefore gave all the natural elements with some of the physical feature of human being, such as the women’s breasts in this painting. “Mother nature is then physically featured as female.” And it is an unconscious of respect that is triggered when the viewers see the imagery like this.

Meanwhile, the breasts are with different colours, which the artist said he was intentionally to do this because of a thought of anti-racism. He was insulted by a horrible woman racist when he was on a city tour in Glasgow in the Boxing Day of 2009. “I just passed by and wanted to buy some burger in her take-away shop. I can’t believe my ear that she actually talked to me like that, using the phrases like ‘all your coloured-skinned people’. I thought it only happened on TV.” Huajin Qiu is an optimistic artist, who preferred to see the bright side of human nature as well as the human life. “I prefer to paint the cheerful scenes so that people can share the joy, although some of them are inspired by an unpleasant experience like this.”

A extraordinary adventure

“I never notice a question like this when I am in my dream: what is the color of this dream. Either can’t I find the answers when I try to recall. However, I do remind myself repeatedly that I have to ask myself such question every night before I go to bed. It’s a naïve thought but really fun. The miracle is I actually see the color finally when I once was in a nap. I saw I grow a rainbow on my head while standing in a mystery valley after rain. I were different I were the end of the rainbow. My body started to shine and then my smile of joy spread to the sky. And when the painting shows up in front of me, I decide to show the miracle by this exhibition.

I am painting to tell one moment or two of my dreams by fusing the stroke art-Chinese Calligraphy and brush painting with western visual art. I simply borrow some symbolic Chinese calligraphic characters and “structure” them as the “bones” of the painting before the “flesh and skin”-colors cover all over it. Although I give every painting a name, which is actually the meanings of the Chinese characters structured in the painting, I would rather the viewers themselves to extract their own meaning from what they see in front of them.”
